John Peel Day
Here at glittyknittykitty we would like to pay tribute to the marvellous John Peel on the first John Peel Day.

John played a major part in the development of my love of music, and his weeknight show on Radio 1 was the highlight of every day for years. Thanks John for sharing your passion with us, and for engendering, encouraging, and facilitating the hundreds of bands you did for our listening pleasure. John Peel the glittyknittykitties salute you. We will probably pay another tribute on the anniversary of his death on 26th.

We do indeed. Still find it hard to remember that he is no longer with us.

My own personal John Peel story: when I was about 13 or 14, the bass player in the Cure (or at least, a member of the Cure- think it was the bass player) got married in our village church. He lived in a flat in a big ol' rambling victorian house on our road. I belonged to the church youth group and on occasion helped with the bell ringing- tho' I was no good at it, because I was small and regularly got lifted up by the bells swinging.
On this occasion I went to help early on in the morning, then me and my gang of friends spent the next 2 hours cycling up and down the road outside the church to try and catch a glimpse of Banarama, John Peel and the rest of the Cure. Pretty sure there were some other famous '80s bands there too, but those are the people i remember spotting....
