Whoot, whoot! My First Pair of Socks...

Cat in the hat socks.

Finally, finally. Apologies for the slowness of my knitting. I am very aware of how slow I am. It is because I am so often out doing other things and because I seem to have no concept of what is appropriate to my knitting station: for example, the first thing I ever knitted, when I was 12, was a Clanger. Not the easiest project. The first cable project I ever attempted was the immense Lily Chin reversible rib cable shawl (see F.O.s). Now I can't say that this is a particularly spectacular pair of socks, but it is my first pair, knitted in Hipknits Cashmere- not the colour I would have chosen, but I have had such issues with getting any Hipknits cashmere at all that I just took what was available.

See that Heel Turn?

Anyway, they're for my Mum's birthday (happy birthday once again, Mum, sorry the socks are late!) and she has termed the lurid colours 'cat in the hat', which is pretty much on the button. Almost Bagpuss, not quite. She also got to wear one for a short time on her birthday, but I wrestled it off her before they left for the blizzards of the South East. They shall be sent off today.

P.s. Glittr, I've found another Cashmere source online- an eBay shop called ColourMartUK which appears to sell remnants from Scottish Cashmere factories- seems all above board etc. Colours aren't too bad (no attempts at hand-dying, thank gawd) but are no self-striping stuff, with an interesting array of weights, including DK, fingering, lace weight and aran... apparently the cashmere itself has been oiled on the cones for ease of use in the factory, so needs a could wash before use, bring the yarn's bloom up fully. Worth a look maybe?

Well done! They look great and I am sure feel fantastic. ColourMart certainly looks like a good cashmere source, I will keep looking there. Hope your mum enjoys wearing them.
