Pandora: from the Music Genome Project
Have you come across Pandora? I'm playing with it now, and it's fabulous. Pandora stems from the Music Genome Project, which started in 2000 with the aim of creating the "most comprehensive analysis of music ever" (their words). With Pandora, you type in the name of a musician you particularly like, and Pandora will analyse the characteristics of the musician and then 'create a music station' that will play songs from individual artists with the same characteristics. A very good way to listen to artists you have never heard of before. Typing in Emiliana Torrini has already given me 5 singers I have never heard of. A really cool way to pass the time ;)
Edited to say: Arse! They ask you to register to keep using, but you must have a US zip code! Nuts to 'em, eh?

Just test it.
There are so many good songs by so many artists I have never heard of before.
Pandora is analyzing our taste of music.
Very funny!
