FO: Baby pirates hat

Skull baby

I was so excited when I downloaded the free We Call Them Pirates fairisle hat pattern from Hello Yarn that I had to start knitting it right away. I had some Rowanspun 4 ply handy and got to work at a pace, knitting like a veritable skull demon. Swatch? I thought, Pah! Too busy knitting skulls to swatch! So I finished the hat in a wink of an eye, and it turned out baby sized. Luckily, I know someone about to give birth who will appreciate a dark green and pale pink nordic fairisls skull hat. The wool was a teensy bit scratchy for a delicate new born's head, so I had to find something with which to line the hat. As it has a provisional cast on, and the pattern requires some lining anyway, that was no problem. Stashbusting was called for. Off I went scrabbling through my ever growing yarn mountain. Nothing. Nada. Rien. Bugger, I thought, Thwarted in my piratical quest.

It's PINK

But then, I remembered my ends basket. Aha!!!! In there found a partial ball of hot pink Cascade Fixation, stretchy soft cotton. Perfect. So its lined in hot pink. This is a great pattern which I would highly recommend, in fact I liked it so much I bought the right gauge wool, and will be making another for myself (a knitted terrorist can NEVER have too many hats) in black and pale pink Rowan wool cotton. Aharrrr me hearties, there be more piratical a'goin's on afore ye can say Jack Sparra!

Oooh, that's great! My DD is currently obsessed with Dora's pirate adventure. I could see her wearing that, if she ever wore a hat....

I love the idea of making this for baby (I made one for myself for ski season and loved knitting it!) What modifications did you make? This is a GREAT baby gift idea!
