Hardrock Hallelujah - Lordi them Finns can rock!

Lordi - they get my vote!

The Eurovision Song Contest is a (in the UK anyway) risible attempt to bring the many and varied cultures of our massive range of nations together in a contest of chansons once a year. There have been a couple of notable winners, Abba for example, but usually the only thing worth watching the marathon TV show for is Terry Wogan's bitingly sarcastic commentary. This year will be different. Taking place in Athens (the winner hosts the contest the following year), we will see an entry unlike anything since transsexual Dana International won in 1998 for Israel. Dana caused a sensation when she won with the song Diva, and a dress to DIE for when she performed the reprise on winning, all feathers and Jean Paul Gaultier. Fabulous darling.

42% of the Finnish nation proved what I have suspected for many a year - the Finns really ROCK! They have voted metal band Lordi with Hardrock Hallelujah as their entry. Hurray! Demon cheer leaders have to be a good thing. The video for their entry is available for all to see. Watch it, and make a date in your diary to see how it fairs in this year's competition. Vote Lordi. We need the next contest to be in Finland. If it is, I am going. For sure.

That's awesome, it's like the Finnish Gwar. The Finns definitely rock- I've had a long standing love for Amorphis.

Oh a get together would be great! And as Dr Pop pointed out, Lordi sound just like Bill Bailey's rock voice...... but then BB is crossed with a klingon, or a troll......

Go Suomi! You've got to respect a nation that'll queue to get into a club in -20c. If they win what an excuse to go to Helsinki ( lovely yarn there too )- have you ever been to the Leningrad Cowboys restaurant???? It's well worth a visit

Yep - been to Helsinki, took some time out of being at a conference in Tampere to take the train there. Finland is a beautiful country, and it is full of nicely mad people :D
