Boy, oh boy am I glad I made up a word

terrorist.JPG

BANG!

I applied to the knittyboard to rent a title according to its call to support breast cancer. Great idea I thought. Off I went to request titles for me, Scumkitten and knitmonkey. We are Knitted Terrorists. That's what I requested.

Turned Down. Flat.

Beaver related names are OK despite their pejorative connotations for women. Anything with Terrorist in it's title isn't. What's that all about? I know that the ultimate decision is Amy's, but really. It's just a word. No more offensive than beaver. And PC to the point of .....

If ANYONE is offended by our title, them PLEASE, tell us here why (comment). If you have a good reason, we'll change our blog. Mind you. It will have to be a DAMNED convincing reason. We are not easily swayed.

And we are angry. Damned angry. But we still gave money to breast cancer, and we are, right now, Knittivists. Which is cool, and OK but NOT what was requested. Grrrrrr.

Wow. I'm kind of too easily offended and I've never been offended by your blog or your "title".

That is the perfect example of political correctness taken to the extreme. I am not offended in the least.

I don't see anything wrong with it. It is fine, and really does give the reader an idea of your sense of humor, especialy the little intro blurb.

People get to worked up. And they tend to forget history. After all, George Washington was a terrorist (until he won, of course).

Even if people are offended, I'm not changing the blog!

It does seem a bit overly pc - I know it's Amy's call but it's just a bit of hank - harmless enough and all that.

I do not find your blog title etc offensive in the least. I have always thought that it's kind of clever.

People don't get it. The 'Bushification' (and I mean that in both senses of the word...) of the world is just pathetic. Hallelujah for angry knitted, terrorism, I say!

And here I thought I'd be turned down for "Prostiturtle, Professional Beaver" and I wasn't. Huh. I'm not at all offended by your use of the word "terrorist" - we all get where you're coming from on that. It's not like you're Osama-ing up the joint.

And someone's avatar on the same board has Oh Bugger! written into it..... I am starting to feel victimised here.

Maybe we need to so some knitted terrorism... put the print 'o the wave shawl away and get knitting some offensive knitwear .... and put it up in the Knitty gallery ;)

Yes I have been wanting to make some F*ck Off stitchmarkers for ages.... and rude fairisle has appeal too.

I agree - I think that's ridiculous. I mean, it's not like you're calling them "Knitted Enemy Combatants" or anything...

Posted by: Catherine at May 27, 2006 5:13 PM

Yeah, you tell 'em! *shakes fist*

Posted by: Holly at May 27, 2006 6:04 PM

We're all knitted terrorists now.

Thanks for all the support chums!

The interesting thing is, and this unusual for me as I don't usually get bothered by anything, but I really hated the 'sniper cosy' thing that went on on Knitty (and else where) a while ago- not because I am against support of the soldiers or anything like that, but really the 'twee' wording for something that was, to be honest, hideous- and I'm not going to get any heavier than that.... but strangely, really nothing happened about it, despite a number of people being upset about it.

Now, I do agree that Knitty is not our site, and everyone involved does a great job... and I guess that this is just one of the moments where we have to shrug our shoulders and then keep on going in the direction we are going... nothing we can do about it without seeming idiots ;)

I am not, nor have I ever been, offended by your blog title. And I was in NYC when the Twin Towers were hit by real terrorists.
