Alnwick garden

I went to Alnwick Garden on Tuesday, and the sun stayed out just long enough to get some photos. The garden is an ongoing project, and you can read all about it on the website - so far there is a lot to see, with the promise of more to come.

It is very easy to spend a whole day there playing with the water, smelling the flowers, tasting the fruit, watching the fountains and promenading around the lovely beds. I love going to places in Northumberland, it is a chance to blab on and on about this most beautiful of English counties.

Actually I think Scumkitten in Cornwall and me near Northumberland (my spiritual home) gives you, lucky reader, a chance to see the two loveliest counties in England. And I am careful to say 'England' because Scotland and the rest of the countries which make up The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland have their own gobsmackingly gorgeous places too. And they are all very, very different. Don't ever think you can 'do' the UK in a couple of weeks, because, well, you can't. We may be small, but we have more differing types of landscape and varieties of vistas than you would believe possible in such a small set of islands. You need a long time to get round 'em all. Back to pics of the Duchess of Northumberland's garden at Alnwick (yes, the Castle is where some of the scenes of Harry Potter were filmed).
