Habu progress

I am knitting two habu kits at the same time right now. Kit-78 is the kusha kusha scarf in bordeaux and terracotta, and kit-77 is a silk stainless steel and cotton jacket in black, tan and blue.

I've got new glasses!

Because of my continuing viral conjunctivitus and inability to wear contact lenses, I have decided to fully embrace my speccy-ness and buy two new pairs of glasses (2 for 1, can't go wrong!)

Ravelry pastie swap

I took part in a knitted pastie swap over at Ravelry. I had three swap partners and I thank them for their creativity and generosity:

From faeflitt

And a special thanks to Tallulah for modelling for me so patiently.

Simple faux faroese mini shawl

Simple faux faroese mini shawl

The Simple faux faroese mini shawl is a pattern by Eleanor Doyle, written to accommodate one skein of Fyberspates Scrumptious chunky. I was given a skein of this lovely yarn when I test knitted a sock pattern for peatbogfaery. I really like how this little shawl has turned out, though I think it will be a gift to someone, so I can't say much more than that. Scrumptious is 45 percent silk and 55 percent Bluefaced Leicester, single ply and very very soft. It seems to take colour beautifully and was very nice to knit with. The shawl was knitted on 7mm needles. I blocked mine gently and it looks much better for it. Finished size is about 46 inches wide, by 18 inches deep at the point. Perfect as a cover up over a camisole held together with a brooch.

Dulcie 2

easter20081.jpg

Dulcie, from Woolly Wormhead's book, Going Straight. Second version. Knitted in Artesano Hummingbird, in the Lapwing colourway on 4mm birch needles. I ran out of yarn with about 25 rows to knit. I had some Knitpicks Memories left over from some socks I have knitted for DJ Mikey some time ago, and as the Flyfishing colourway has exactly the same colours in it as the Hummingbird Lapwing, it seemed foolhardy not to try it out. Anyway, it has turned out well, and the change in yarn is barely noticeable.

New chairs, but can I get the cat off them?

I bought two chairs for the balcony, in the hope that the weather will be better this year for sitting out there after work with a glass of wine, or a nice cup of tea at the weekend, whilst knitting in the fresh air.

I have a problem though.

Greebo likes them rather a lot.

I haven't put them outside yet, because the weather has been so poor, and despite them being under cover on my balcony, the wind has been ferocious of late and I want them to have at least a modicum of protection until things calm down a bit.

In the meantime......

Easter holidays

habuscarfkit781.jpg
Easter weekend. Earlier than it has been for 110 years (if you are a Gregorian calendar follower) and cold enough to freeze yer bollock off, if you are unfortunate enough to have them. I don't like Easter at the best of times, apart from the long weekend off work, but when the weather decides to throw hail and snowstorms at you with temperatures of -2C (which is cold for here at this time of year), it's pretty unpleasant. What with the frenetic worshipping at the altar of consumerism, the encouragement of gorging on chocolate, and little acknowlegement of what Easter is actually all about. Now I am no religious person, and I do not consider myself a christian, but there is not even any real reference to the pagan beginnings of Easter shennanigans. Easter bunny? Where did that come from? It was only an American thing when I was a little lass....
habuscarfkit782.jpg
However, I have had some genteel moments today, nestled in my warm flat in a haze of drying clothes and knitting. The sunshine was quite nice earlier, and I had to fight the cat to make best use of the sunbeams, but I am quite pleased with these progress shots of a Habu scarf kit-78, given to me for my birthday by Ganaimn back in December.
habuscarfkit783.jpg
Knitted holding a strand of Habu Super Fine Merino A-177 in Bordeaux with a strand of Habu Silk Stainless A-20/21 1/20 in Terracotta. It's growing quite fast, but in the vein of everything I am knitting that has no cables in it, it is plain stocking stitch....... I MUST knit something other than cables and stocking stitch soon...

Knit Knot Tree

If you're ever in Yellow Springs, Ohio, try and find the Knit Knot Tree. Here's my friend Bill a'leaning and looking chirpy. Thanks Bill and Helen for the heads up!

Arriba!

Would you buy a used car from this man? Posted entirely for the Quelle Erqsome moustache contest (although he doesn't know it). His image is also up in our office, being defiled as we speak with squeaky pens.

Moth holes? Pah!

cashmereemb.jpg

Make do and mend

This poor cashmere cardi... not hand knit, bought in second hand shop in Aspen, CO, worn so much it got holes in its elbows... and now moth holes. But I refuse to give up on it, hence an attempt at steeking the arms to elbow length, crocheting an edge on to each using Debbie Bliss Silk, with a picot trim, and nailing those moth holes with embroidery flowers. I have amazed myself.

Another Gemma

gemmabrown.jpg

Not another Gemma?!

Yet another Gemma 'beret' by Sarah Hatton, this time in Rowan Kid Classic 'peat'. Yet again, removed a repeat of the pattern, and knit in the round (using magic loop to finish the decreasing). Still massive, but I like it.

Thanks to etcgirl

sunday_fun9.jpg

Thanks etcgirl!

I was a stand in Secret Pal to etcgirl in a recent round, and she seemed to appreciate what I sent her. She seemed to appreciate it a lot! This generous parcel arrived this week, and I only just got the chance to take pics. I was quite speechless! What a generous Thank You! I have never knitted with any of these yarns before, so am looking forward to knitting them immensely! There is a cute cowboy chicken card at the back, and the rest were......

sunday_fun13.jpgsunday_fun14.jpgsunday_fun15.jpg
Top row: Two balls of Australian Merinos Lame, with the comment that she couldn't send me a package without anything glittery in it.... Two skeins of Koigu KPM in shade 2339, a lovely limey chartreusey green. A bag of little soap samples in a choc mint smell that scented the whole parcel beautifully.
Bottom row: A red Panic button. I rarely panic, preferring to bluff my way out of situations rather than panic, so I shall donate this to someone who does. A packet of Love Hearts - I will be intrigued to see if the sentiments are different on Canadian ones than they are on British ones. And last but not least, another skein of Koigu KPPPM - I can't make out the handwritten dye code, but its a candy coloured extravaganza of pink, purple, orange, yellow and green.

I am quite stunned!

Wickery

The pattern is Wickery from Woolly Wormhead. Knitted in Brown Sheep Cotton Fleece in Perry's Primrose, which is a vibrant magenta. I made the largest size as my head is quite big, but whether I shall keep it or give is to someone I have no idea yet. I do know I love knitting hats - better than socks, 'cos you only have to do one! And Woolly Wormhead's hats are great to knit. Here it is blocking on a dinner plate. A knitted terrorista can never have too many berets.....

Dulcie

Knitted in Artesano Hummingbird, in the Lapwing colourway on 4mm birch needles, in three days. This is another Woolly Wormhead hat from Going Straight, and therefore kniited sideways on, on straight needles and the edges grafted together. Just the thing to catch fish in don't you think?

Reasons to wear Berets... 1,2,3, ummm, 4?

It's hard being a Knitted Terrorist. It's hard wearing either black or fatigues all the time (apart from if you are Glittr- she loves it), never feeling that it is appropriate to show those other sides to your personality, the sides that let you pick a violet without crushing it with your fist, smile at a couple in love walking through the park (yes, I know that 'innocents' are now considered a realistic target, but see, the man, he's wearing a Noro scarf!), watch 'Dirty Dancing' without smashing the TV. Afer all, how can a terrorist personality (whether a one off crazy, a small 'bijou' group fighting only for the rights of mittens, a large world-wide group pushing intasia on a mindless population, or even a group funded by a 'democratic' government to cause terror every which way with space-dyed sock yarn) marry the dual desires of everyday life and the obsessive certainty that everyone should wear knitted underwear?

We here at glittknittykitty understand your pain. We have therefore been thinking long and hard about possible changes, small changes, that can be taken to allow for the 'otherness' of a happy day in the park when no knitting-related bloodshed is required.

Our answer, thus far, is found in the beret....

Hats as blogged previously (apart from the orange one), and modelled by the delightful Scumkitten:

hatshow1.jpg

For spring days, when the sun is out and the wind is cold, the bright and sparky knitted terrorist wouldn't be out of place in this cute 'n spunky Enroule (by Woolly Wormhead) in pink angora. I've worn this for three days in a row, and have so far been told that 'I didn't think you were a pink kind of woman'. Challenge assumptions, people. Don't be afraid to go blancmange.

hatshow2.jpg

This is one for all you brainiacs out there. Visiting the library for the latest magic loop technique? Wishing to sit and drink coffee in a dark coffee house, but black just drains you? Then this Ysolda 'Gretel' cabled beret is just the thing. Although, I also think it has the hint of the 'Columbian drug baron' about it. No bad thing.

hatshow3.jpg

Yo, yo, yo! Yo! Hey dude! Just, like, chill! Throw some shapes, walk some style, bring it. on. down. Yo. Gemma, from Rowan, in Kid Classic. Glittr says: 'a hat by Sarah Hatton (Sarah Hat On..... geddit? I bet she get's that ALL the time, sorry Sarah)'.

hatshow4.jpghatshow5.jpghatshow6.jpg

And finally, feeling a little environmentally friendly? Worried about how your knitted attacks might be affecting the world around you? Well, don't concern yourself, my friend, continue to discard your yarn labels hither and yon with no thought for the little kittens choking on the paper, or the (god forbid) lack of biodegradability of that (gag) acrylic yarn you've used for your granny's scarf. Wear a green beret and stop thinking about the next generation. Nothing will matter once you've popped your clogs, after all. Candy Pi by Woolly Wormhead.

All hats, apart from the ridiculous orange one, knitted by Glittr. The ridiculous orange one knitted by Skitten.

I thank you.
