Eeeek!

I've bought a bike. The first bike I have owned for 13 years (I used to do a lot of commuting cycling). It's a Certini Specialized Crosstrail Sport and is gorgeous. I've been quite sensible and bought the most basic bike in the range (still £325 in the sale though!), but I was allowed to take it out for a bit and I love it.

It should be able to cope with the Cornish lanes, trails and some gentle off-road and it's aluminium framed, so very light. DJ Mikey has borrowed a £1K Tricross from the same company, and has it for 3 days. It's a road hybrid and has scared the bejesus out of both of us (I tried it too, today), because it is so easy to go fast on flat smooth roads (although not many of those around in Cornwall!). Luckily for our bank balance I don't think he will go for that bike.

Our group of Cornish friends have undergone a bike buying frenzy- I'm the 5th person to buy a new bike in the sales. We can ride out to the coast in a gang!

Cycling to work?

Definitely, once I've got my fitness up to scratch. I went out for 45 mins yesterday round the lanes and can hardly walk now, despite stretching afterwards!

I have friends who cycle from Landrake to the centre of Plymouth, and apparently it's just under 10 miles, so not so bad. Maybe 3 times a week come springtime?!
