Small steps and mittens in a tree

Mittens in a tree, Beamish

I have been staying with my sister since Ian died, and yesterday, as it was such a lovely day we decided to take the dog out for a walk in the morning sunshine. Lisa chose to go to Beamish, a walk which has many memories for her and Ian. The dog was very excited to be out and we started along the path on our walk. It was a beautiful morning, with bright blue sky and Spring sunshine. I spotted these mittens in a tree, obviously placed there carefully by a nice person hoping that their owner would return to collect them. As I took this pic on my iPhone I wondered how anyone as short as me and Lisa are would manage to pluck them from the branches. We smiled and moved on.

Not long after that Lisa decided that it was too hurtful to go any further, and we turned around and went back home.

Hopefully next time we can go a few steps further, and with the lighter evenings, can go after work. I do hope so. I so want her to take a few more steps each day. She is being stoic and coping so very well. Ian would have been so proud of her.
