Broken toe. Starting to mend?

I broke my toe in an iPhone related incident in Devon recently. After a lovely couple of days with Scumkitten, and visiting Lainch in her holiday place in Mevagissey, I went off to stay with a friend from years ago for a night.

She was pretty impressed with the iPhone and when she asked how it did a particular thing, I jumped up, rather too enthusiastically, to demonstrate said function. I skidded along the highly polished floor and banged my foot into the sofa she was sitting on.

Crack.

Ouch.

Broken toe, and some nasty bruises on my knuckles, arms and leg where I fell over trying to save myself. The journey home was rather painful. After a few days of some heavy duty painkillers, which induced a LOT of sleep and an air of otherworldliess making any form of concentration almost impossible (I tried knitting and had to frog Ishbel four times before I gave in), I think I am starting to mend.

The swelling has gone down a lot, and I can get my Birks on for short walks. I have stopped the heavy duty mind altering painkillers, and am just taking aspirin and ibuprofen now, and applying arnica ointment to my bruises.

I had to have help to get Greebo to the vet as he had done himself rather a lot of damage with scratching (see previous entry), which, together with my poorly toe, curtailed the plans we had for a nice walk with my sister and her dog, together with my oldest friend, to celebrate The Sibling's birthday yesterday.

Obviously it was a difficult day for her, following her husband's untimely death in March, but I think we managed a nice day. We walked along (well, hobbled and shuffled in my case) the Leas at Marsden for a little bit, which the dog seemed to like, had lunch sitting outside the Marsden Grotto (a local pub on a beach, built into a cave in the cliff face) and ice cream sundaes at Minchellas. Yumptious. We rounded the day off with a girly night of cousins and a rather nice meal at Fat Buddha in Durham. Well, I had a nice time, and I hope that my sister did too.

My toe is throbbing a bit this morning. I think I may have done too much. I will sit with it elevated, with enforced knitting and tea drinking today. Perhaps a rest in the cinema might be good, for a second viewing of Star Trek.
