Loppem

loppem1.jpgLoppem by Nora Gaughan is a lovely short sleeved cardie, knitted in one piece, which was a delight to knit. It went fast. It stayed interesting. It was easy to adapt.

I knitted this one in Patons Jet, in a lovely pinky brick colour. The yarn is a chunky weight, and the pattern called for aran weight. I knitted a tension square on the suggested needle size, just to see what the fabric was like, but it was too stiff. I went up a needle size, and to compensate for that and the fatter yarn, did the smallest size. This easily fits a 36 inch bust. I lengthened the body from 9 to 13 inches to keep my kidneys warm.

The result is rather nice - though it fits my mother better than me, so she will end up with it.

The yarn came from Kemps, and was 69p a ball.... I used 7.5 balls. Cheap! Warm! Red! Delightful.

Lucky mama, that's a mighty fine way with some thrifty knitting. I really like it. Nora Gaughan is a true knitting genius.
